Welcome to the Department of Civil Engineering at the United International University. Our department was established in February 2020. Though newly established, the department is focused on playing a pivotal role in defining the future of our nation and the world.

Civil Engineering is considered the second-oldest engineering discipline after military engineering but plays the most critical role in addressing the fundamental societal needs. Civil Engineers are responsible for applying engineering practices to the planning, design, construction, operation, and maintenance of structures such as buildings, roads, bridges, railways, airports, water supply system, sewerage system, waste management and material recovery, irrigation schemes, docks, harbors, dams, Disaster management systems, etc. Civil engineers actively participate to combat issues related to Global Warming and Climate Change in order to develop a sustainable and resilient society through achieving Sustainable Development Goals, Agenda 2030. 

The B.Sc. in Civil Engineering program of UIU is approved by the University Grants Commission (02-Feb-2020) and follows the guidelines given by the Board of Accreditation of Engineering and Technical Education (BAETE) of Bangladesh. Our department has established the following fully functional laboratories: Strength of Material Lab, Hydraulics Lab, Engineering Materials Lab, Surveying Lab, Drafting Studio, Computer Lab, Transportation and Traffic Engineering Lab, Geotechnical Engineering Lab, Environmental Engineering Lab, with up-to-date and sophisticated instruments.

The graduates of Civil Engineering may choose his/her career among a wide range of options namely the five major divisions of Civil Engineering, which are Geotechnical, Structural, Transportation, Environmental and Water Resource engineering. Besides, the students may also develop their career in the field of Construction Management, GIS Professional etc. 

Our department has a strong group of dedicated and highly motivated faculty members with strong educational backgrounds. We aim to produce market-ready Civil Engineers by providing students with the fundamental knowledge, technical skills and practical experience to meet the challenges and opportunities of a career as a professional engineer or civil engineering researcher.
